Must Do Activities

1. Writing

I can plan, draft and edit my writing.

Continue to write and edit your narrative chapter from Big Write last week and plan next chapter. As there is no Big Write this Friday, and we are planning to publish our narratives next week, try to finish your draft this week!

 

2. Reading – Book report

I can complete an in depth book reviews about a book of my choice.

This week you are to complete a book report about a book of your choice. You may continue the report from last week, or complete a new one.

This week, there are book report graphic organisers for you to use to help you complete the report. There is one for Grade 3s and one for Grade 4-6s.

Term 4, Week 8

Must Do Activities

1. Writing

This week you should continue to write and edit chapter one of the narrative from Big Write on Friday. Remember to refer back to the rubric we created that is on the wall. 

 

 

2. Reading – Book report

I can complete an in depth book review.

Over the next two weeks you will complete a book review about a narrative book of your choice – it may be a new book or a book you are currently reading.

The book review should include a discussion of:

  • the setting
  • the characters and how the author presents them
  • the complication
  • the resolution
  • and a recommendation to others

3. Reading Comprehension.

I can summarise the important facts and reflect after reading a text.

Tuesday is Remembrance Day. On Tuesday in shared reading we will watch a video about the Remembrance Day. After watching it, go to the following websites: Remembrance Day  and The Red Poppy.

After reading about the history, meaning and traditions of Remembrance Day and the Red Poppy, write down 5 things you have learnt, in full sentences. Then finish with a reflection, at least 2 paragraphs, about why it is important we commemorate Remembrance Day and what the day now means to you.

4. THRASS Raps.

I can learn the phonemes and key words on the THRASS chart.

Using the Thrass raps on the ‘THRASS’ page, listen to them and practice them to learn the chart. Then write a short story with at least 15 of the key words in the story.

This week you have a MASUTA myEdapp quest to complete. Take your time to complete the quest – it is not a rush! Make sure you understand it – ask a friend to help if you are stuck – please don’t just guess answers!

5. Writing.

We are going to create a Class Book of Games, Recipes and Instructions. This week you are to do the following:

  1. Pick your favourite Big Write procedure so far, or write a new procedure text for this task.
  2. Conference with a friend. Make any changes necessary.
  3. Conference with John.
  4. Publish a good version. This will be collected by John to create a class book. Think about how you can make your procedure interesting and clear. You might like to do a digital version with pictures for each step.

6 . Studyladder.

There are grammar and comprehension tasks for you to complete in Studyladder. John has your log in and password details.

Term 4, Week 3

Must Do Activities

1. Learning Conversation.

Practice your Learning Conversation script and complete the checklist. Once you have completed the checklist and are ready to meet with John, put your name on the board.

2. Writing.

I can up level and publish my writing. 

Up level a procedure text you have written during Big Write, read it to a friend and get 2 Stars and a Wish and publish the procedure your blog when you are happy with it.

3. Create a Game.

I can create a game and write the procedure on how to play it.

Continue the game you began last week. Once you have written the procedure to play it and created the materials necessary to play it, get other students to play the game and give you feedback (2 Stars and a Wish). Improve the game using their feedback.

Create your own game in pairs or small groups, including the directions on how to play the game.

The game can be any type you like – board game, card game or a sport. The aim is that people could actually play this game from your instructions. You may like to include diagrams also.

Comprehension:

Read The Silk Road and write 5 literal questions.

Digraphs and Trigrahs:

Read People of Africa and highlight all the digraphs and trigraphs in the text.

List the words that you have highlighted in your workbook, identify the trigraph or digraph and write the key word for them off the Thrass chart.

Create a list of inventions you think are important. Order your list from ‘most important’ to you – to ‘least important’ to you. Then tell us why you chose your number 1 and 2 most important inventions.

3. Australian Inventions.
